OREAS 739

OREAS 739 is a smelter-grade alumina (SGA), certified reference material (CRM) prepared from three alumina products blended in equal proportions. The materials were sourced from Alcoa and Worsley Alumina in Western Australia, and Rio Tinto in Queensland (Australia). OREAS 739 was developed in collaboration with Alumina Quality Workshop Inc. and is typical of SGA produced in Australia and similar to globally produced SGA. Sixteen commercial analytical laboratories participated in the program to certify the following:

  • Al2O3, CaO, Cr2O3, Fe2O3, K2O, MgO, MnO, Na2O, P2O5, SiO2, SrO, TiO2, V2O5, and ZrO2 by lithium borate fusion with XRF;
  • BaO, BeO, Ga2O3, Sn, SrO, U, V2O5, W, ZnO and ZrO2 by borate fusion with ICP-OES/MS finish;
  • MOI (moisture) at 300°C and LOI (loss on ignition) at 1000°C on the ‘as received’ sample by TGA as per AS2879.1-2000.
